Norfolk Naval Station Cracking Down on Drunken Driving/DUI

According to Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle DUI statistics, 8,221 crashes in Virginia involved drunk drivers during 2010, resulting in 274 fatalities and 5,578 injuries.

By Emily Mapp Brannon, Virginia (VA) Car Accident Attorney

You only had two drinks at the holiday party this year and finished off the last couple of hours with soda and coffee.  This will be the case for most people in Hampton Roads, Virginia (VA), as they enjoy the events of the season.

However, some people choose to not be responsible enough to limit their alcohol intake or to put down the car keys.  It is those people who choose to break the law that police at Norfolk Naval Station will be looking for when they increase vehicle inspections on the base over the holidays to check for drunken driving.

With 54,000 active duty personnel and 14,000 civilians working on the Naval Station, this could make a big difference in preventing drunken driving accidents across Virginia.  As a VA car accident attorney, I know that despite everyone’s best attempts, some drunk drivers will slip through law enforcement’s fingers and seriously injure or kill innocent drivers.

According to Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle DUI statistics, 8,221 crashes in Virginia involved drunk drivers during 2010, resulting in 274 fatalities and 5,578 injuries.  Those numbers disgust and appall me as I think of all the families who are shattered by this act of irresponsibility.  Our law firm never has and never will represent a drunk driver. We will, however, do everything in our power to serve those who have been injured by one.
