Car Accident on Military Highway Sends Two to Hospital

By Kevin Duffan, Norfolk Car Accident Injury Attorney

An early-morning traffic accident on Military Highway near the intersection with Crescent Way in Norfolk, Virginia (VA), sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries. Details remain scant, but witnesses to the wreck reported that one of the people in the crashed car was ejected from the vehicle.

Vehicle ejections account for more than 20 percent of passenger deaths following car and truck accidents. Most of the people thrown from vehicles in crashes and rollovers were not wearing seat belts. Again, it is too early to know if that was the case in the accident that occurred in Norfolk on March 24, 2001.

Any car or truck crash can cause debilitating injuries or deaths to drivers and passengers, and those risks increase dramatically when people do not buckle up. Besides being ejected from the vehicle, failing to wear a seat belt increases the likelihood that people will be thrown forward into a steering wheel, dashboard, windshield or seat back and suffer a traumatic brain injury.
